It is fair to say that the communities of Blackburn with Darwen have been harder hit than most throughout the pandemic, and our public health team has played a fundamental role in supporting them. Moving forward, it is imperative that we also tackle the underlying issues and key determinants of health in the borough, which is why the post of DPH is so crucial for us. Reporting to Sayyed Osman, but directly accountable to me for their statutory responsibilities, our new DPH can play a major role in shaping the future vision of the authority.
